The Phoenix Suns Maximized The Effectiveness Of Project Million

The Phoenix Suns have given us an amazing opportunity to maximize the effectiveness of Project Million. A major portion of Project Million is found in our school vs. school or district vs. district competitions. Children are able to compete against their rival schools for an entire semester. The students will receive points based on the following.

  • Their activity level
  • Their grades
  • Attendance
  • Writing reviews on health related documentaries and books

The Suns have provided the winning school with the opportunity to have the Phoenix Sun’s come to their school. At the event the students get to meet the Sun’s Gorilla and receive a health based event by members of the Sun’s staff and alumni players. The involvement of the Phoenix Suns gives children an even greater reason to be the best they can be and push themselves further.

The Suns have also provided MVP prizes to 5 children from every school. These awards are given out based on two factors.

  1. These students must score a lot of points
  2. The student must show leadership qualities and must be excellent team players by encouraging everyone on their own team to be the best they can be. Thanks to the Phoenix Suns we were truly able to bring classmates together to work as a team for an entire semester. Where else can you find a classroom where every student also wants their peers to succeed?

April 22, 2014 (Phoenix Sun’s Visit Eagle Ridge)Project Million finished its Spring Semester with a visit from the Phoenix Suns to Eagle Ridge Elementary School. The students at Eagle Ridge deservingly earned this presentation due to their effort in the Project Million Program. These children were regularly making the right choice on what they ate and how they lived. They had racked up over 10,000 steps per child p/day and that was only their recorded data.

At the event the students were able to interact with the Sun’s Gorilla who taught them that there is no one exercise that fits everyone. He showed them that there are many ways to exercise and it’s up to the child to decide which form of exercise they enjoy the most. Without words he was still able to get across to the children that it is fun to move your body and even to be wild at times.

The students were also able to listen to a questions answered by Steven Hunter, a Sun’s alumni player standing 7 feet tall, who encouraged the kids to eat right, get plenty of rest, and work hard to achieve the goals that they have for themselves. The children gained a much greater appreciation for health after hearing first-hand how eating the right foods is vital for keeping a clear mind and a strong body.

We at Project Million couldn’t thank this group enough for taking the time to come to our school and share this valuable information with the kids. It was an event that made a strong impact on the children, and will be an event that they will never forget!
